Indian Country Today: Then and Now
Welcome to the first book that seeks to preserve the legacy of Indian Country Today. Known as the premier publication that served Indigenous communities from the early 1990s to the early 2020s, Indian Country Today has an enduring impact that lives on through IndiJ Public Media, the (501)(c)(3) organization that owns the ICT brand.
Many people still refer to ICT as Indian Country Today, although the name was changed to ICT in 2021. All the more reason to publish “Indian Country Today: Then and Now.” This Indian Country Today throwback book sheds light on ICT’s roots in The Lakota Times newspaper and its transformation to Indian Country Today. As you read ICT’s stories captured in this book, you will see how Indian Country Today’s legacy lives on.
Quotes From the Book
Fuel the Power of Indigenous Storytelling
Indian Country Today: Then and Now is a collection of stories written by Indigenous journalists at ICT that take the reader on a journey through its great legacy. ICT, formally known as Indian Country Today, is deeply rooted in Native American culture, values, and traditions. From the days of the Lakota Times as a local newspaper to entering the digital era and most recently expanding to the multimedia entity it is today, ICT continues to lead the way in authentic reporting.
