IndiJ Public Media is reshaping the media landscape with an Indigenous approach to journalism. Grounded in Indigenous principles that align with the tenets of journalism, our nonprofit media company demonstrates how news coverage of diverse communities is not only in demand but is central to a healthy democracy.
Our primary service is news. IndiJ Public Media is a national 501 (c)(3) public charity and parent company of ICT, formerly Indian Country Today. ICT has been serving the Native American community with news and information since 1981 and has a strong reputation for fair and accurate reporting on Indigenous peoples and their issues.
In times of shrinking newsrooms with far fewer journalists covering important stories that people rely on to make informed decisions, ICT is growing. Under the ICT brand, IndiJ Public Media has multiple distribution vehicles: A digital mobile platform (ictnews.org), public broadcasting (“ICT News with Aliyah Chavez”), e-newsletter (The Weekly), and social media pages.
IndiJ Public Media impacts the journalism landscape by achieving broadcast excellence with compelling storytelling for the next generation.
Additionally, ICT allows other media including commercial to use our content for free. We turn our broadcast into a radio format and upload this content onto SoundCloud. Tribal radio channels are then able to access the content, making our reporting accessible to all communities, including those left behind in the digital divide.
