Our impact on the media landscape doesn’t go unnoticed. We have a long history of serving Indigenous communities with news and information dating back to 1981. IndiJ Public Media employs the largest Native American staff and has hired more Native journalists than the entire industry has.
ICT is covering the Indigenous world with reporters in local communities across the U.S., bolstered by our news bureau hubs developing across 10 geographic regions, five currently, with our headquarters at Arizona State University. As we continue our bureau expansion strategy – known as our Local Indigenous Journalism Initiative – to deepen and broaden our impact across the country, we’ve identified three strategic priorities our community of supporters can help us achieve.
Elevate the newscast to match network standards, with investments in multimedia technology and additional staff, to meet our audience where they are, gain new viewers, and expand Indigenous programming.
Capacity Building
Your support will strengthen our capacity to improve infrastructure, invest in growth, and align our workforce with operational needs to continue expanding our multimedia and bureau services.
Invest in multimedia reporting, add five regional bureaus, and expand our resources so we may continue to amplify compelling Indigenous narratives, told through a trustworthy and informed Indigenous lens.
Bureau Expansion
With your help, we will continue expanding the scope, reach and impact of our reporting by creating a regional news ecosystem in key geographic areas.
We are dedicated to transforming the narrative surrounding Indigenous people in the media, while preparing the next generation of Indigenous journalists who will lead the future of news ecosystems.
National Internship Program
Your contribution will help us continue to develop our internship program and build a pipeline of Indigenous journalists, editors, and newsroom leaders.
ICT is covering the Indigenous world with reporters in local communities through Indigenous centered journalism spanning five bureaus – Washington, D.C., Anchorage, Alaska, Phoenix, Arizona, Missoula, Montana, Portland, Oregon. Our goal is to open five more bureaus across Wisconsin, New York, Florida, Oklahoma, and California in the coming years.
Our Local Indigenous Journalism Initiative ensures that we go beyond state lines to cover regions where America’s nearly 10 million American Indians and Alaska Natives live and work.
